Jane Lee McCracken: The Woodcutter's Cottage

Jane Lee McCracken: The Woodcutter's Cottage

In a new exhibition at the Mercer's North Gallery, Jane Lee McCracken re-creates the fairy tale setting of The Woodcutter’s Cottage.

Artist Jane Lee McCracken’s intricate drawings in coloured Biro, which take weeks to create, explore her preoccupation with fairy tales, forests and wolves. Jane’s subject matter comes from childhood memories, fairy tales, found objects, film stills and her pet dog. In her multi-layered drawings she uses simplicity and beauty to represent difficult issues such as the aftermath of wars and natural disasters, creating memorials of lives lived, both human and animal, and of ways of life lost. Jane Lee McCracken: The Woodcutter’s Cottage opens on 6 July and runs until 8 September 2013. Opening times: Tuesday - Saturday and Bank Holiday Mondays 10am until 5pm, Sundays 2pm until 5pm.
