From What Has Been

From What Has Been

Explore the emotional journeys and challenges faced by three distinctive artists, who place nature and landscape at the heart of their work.

Azad Mohammed’s large-scale tree sculptures reflect his story of relocation and escape from war in Iraq, and tell of his physical and emotional journey, one which has brought him from turbulent times in Baghdad to Teesside and the beautiful North York Moors. His uprooted tree-root sculptures represent birth, death and his own life’s journey, and also embody his dreams of hope for the future. Catherine Sutcliffe-Fuller is a York based printmaker. The theme of nature runs throughout her work which depicts her own personal journey from a rural childhood through to being a parent, artist and wife living in suburbia. Using the traditional techniques of lino cutting and etching, her landscape pictures describe the everyday and the environment she lives in. Catherine’s work is widely collected and can be found in many private collections including the House of Lords, London. Nicola Taylor’s photographic work cannot be further from her original occupation as a stockbroker in the City of London. Her images tell tales inspired by the wild beautiful desolate spaces of the North York Moors National Park.
