Farnham Art Society Annual Spring Exhibition
Farnham Art Society's prestigious Spring Exhibition has long since been attended by many well known artists including David Shepherd, our President. The James Hockey Gallery at the University for Creative Art is a superb and well situated venue to display the best work from our amateur and professional painters, sculptors and ceramicists. Admission is free and parking nearby.
There are records of the existence from time to time of an amateur `Art Club' since 1860 however, in December 1944 the `Farnham Art Society' was formed and in 1948 James Hockey, who in 1945 had taken over as Principal of the Farnham School of Art, commenced to dominate the Society scene. He introduced an enterprising series of programmed meetings and carefully selected exhibitions of high quality, so that membership and financial strength grew rapidly. The same broad pattern of activities has remained to this day and our association with the University for the Creative Arts provides us with the the fabulous James Hockey Gallery to display our Spring Exhibition. Over 400 exhibits of artwork are displayed to maximum advantage and many galleries are browsing for potential clients as well as public purchasers who delight in viewing our wide spectrum of work. Take the opportunity of viewing all of our best pieces at out Annual Spring Exhibition 12 - 23 April 2011.
