Art: Authenticity, conservation and the role of forensics

Hosted by Society President Dr Ann Priston, OBE, the event entitled Art: Authenticity, conservation and the role of forensics, will feature speakers from the world of forensic art investigation and conservation sharing their invaluable knowledge and some interesting anecdotes as part of an evening drinks reception and canapés. In particular Stephen Cole, Technical Director of Acumé Forensics, will be talking about his involvement in the case of the Rice portrait of Jane Austen, the only known portrait of the author whose provenance has been the subject of debate almost since it came to public light in the late 19th century. It is a special honour to have Johnnie Nettlefold Esq, the son of Anne Rice, owner of the portrait and a direct descendant of Jane Austen's brother, to give a history of the painting.
