Andy Farr: The Space Between

Andy Farr: The Space Between

At Gallery150, the artist will be presenting a body of works that force the viewer to engage more deeply with the image and draw from their own imagination and experience. The intrigue of a winding street where the end just turns out of sight; the excitement of a carousel ride; the light breaking through a canopy of trees, or the daunting shadow of industrial buildings, draw the spectator in, urging them to question what is around the corner and embark upon a journey into a new and unexplored world.

Gallery150, run and showcased by Leamington Studio Artists (LSA), will be presenting the works of Andy Farr in his ‘Space Between’ exhibition, from 12th-24th April 2011. Andy Farr returned to painting three years ago, after what he jokingly calls “a brief pause of about twenty years”. He initially began painting subjects that he liked or interested him, producing an incredibly eclectic series of works, but did not feel he was capturing the emotions he really wished to convey. In his desire to express the deeper elements of his emotional responses, the artist, who clearly has no fear of experimentation, began to explore mixed media (juxtapositions of photographic images, poetry and acrylic paint), which led on to his experimentation with abstraction. This ‘foray’ has proven to be most successful, culminating in a series of finely executed and pondered works that show echoes of Kandinsky, Boccioni and Rothko; a complex blend of styles and textures, which hover, upon a hard to define line, between Abstract Expressionism, Cubism and Futurism in an impressive play of brushstrokes, depth, colour and light. The preview will be held on 12th April 2011 from 7pm. Gallery150 is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
