    Tutor: Soraya French

Soraya French PSWA works in all media and is a regular contributor to The Artist. She uses light and vibrant colours to full effect in her paintings.

    Description

The session will start with a talk about the properties of acrylic inks and the variety of techniques possible with this vibrant and versatile medium. Soraya will also show you how to incorporate the markers for useful linear marks. After a demonstration that will cover as many techniques as possible and touch on composition, colour mixing, colour value, light and expressive mark making, participants will work on their own painting, with plenty of individual tuition. Please note, the afternoon session will be a repeat of the morning's course.

Each student will receive, courtesy of Daler-Rowney, six 29.5ml bottles of FW Acrylic Inks, an FW Marker Set and an A3 Aquafine Watercolour Pad, worth over £56(rrp).

FW Ink is an acrylic based, pigmented, water-resistant ink with a high degree of lightfastness and intermixability, which can be used straight out of the dropper, or diluted to achieve subtle tones, very similar in character to watercolour. They can be applied using brushes, but also work well through airbrushes, technical pens and paint markers. FW Markers are ideal for use with FW Acrylic Ink; the empty markers allow inks to be applied with precision across a variety of surfaces.

The cost of each three-hour session is just £60(inc VAT) per person and includes tuition from Soraya French, Daler-Rowney materials worth over £56(rrp), PLUS free entry to Patchings Art, Craft and Design Festival for the day, worth £10.

Patchings Art, Craft & Design Festival is one of the UK’s finest practical art, craft and design events, set in 60 acres of picturesque Nottinghamshire countryside. The event showcases some of the best professional artists and craft makers, along with paintings, textiles, jewellery, glasswork, photography, ceramics, woodwork and sculpture. The festival at Patchings Art Centre in Calverton, Nottinghamshire, runs from Thursday to Sunday, July 11 to 14, 10am to 5pm daily. For further information visit www.patchingsartcentre.co.uk

    Tutor: Jenny Aitken

Jenny Aitken is a regular contributor to The Artist who works in acrylics and oils and is inspired by movement, light and atmosphere in her paintings.

    Description

The workshop will cover composition, colour, brushwork and depth, with special emphasis on layering light. After Jenny’s demonstration, students will paint a small tonal study in black and white, followed by a large colour painting. Throughout the session, Jenny will provide individual teaching and advice.   Please note, the afternoon session will be a repeat of the morning's course.

Daler-Rowney will provide each student with a System3 Studio Set containing 10x37ml tubes; an A3 System3 Artboard Pad and a System3 Brush Wallet, worth over 59(rrp).

System3 acrylics are highly versatile water-based acrylic colours with fast drying properties. They offer permanence, inter-mixability, durability, covering power and excellent lightfastness (with the exception of fluorescent colours which are by nature fugitive). They are made from high quality pigments, allowing them to be thinned with water or used directly to create an insoluble film. System3 brushes are resilient and durable; perfect for painting with acrylics. System3 Artboard Pad comprises 10 durable boards laminated with an acrylic surface paper on top and as they are 1.4mm thick, the painting will be ready to frame.

The cost of each three-hour session is just £60(inc VAT) per person and includes tuition from Jenny Aitken, Daler-Rowney materials worth over £59(rrp), PLUS free entry to Patchings Art, Craft and Design Festival for the day, worth £10.
