Win one of five copies of The Kew Book of Painting Roses in Watercolour by Trevor Waugh from Search Press

PaintersOnline, Leisure Painter and The Artist have teamed up with Search Press, offering you the chance to win one of five copies of The Kew Book of Painting Roses in Watercolour by Trevor Waugh worth £14.99 each (rrp).

You can watch a video of Trevor painting in Kew Gardens as part of our Virtual Patchings Festival. The live festival events end on July 10, however you can still enjoy the rest of the virtual show by clicking here.

Guided by watercolour artist and rose enthusiast Trevor Waugh, The Kew Book of Painting Roses in Watercolour begins with clear explanations of essential watercolour techniques followed by a short project that allows the reader to explore the nature of watercolour in a practical way. Particular emphasis is placed on mixing colours cleanly in order to reproduce the purity and variety of this much-loved family of flowers. This is followed by sections on how to gather reference material; how to compose your own paintings; and how to inject your paintings with colour and light. All are accompanied by three further step-by-step projects, each culminating in a stunning painting of your own.

Search Press

Search Press is the leading art and craft publisher in the UK, specialising in fine art, textiles, general crafts and children's crafts. The company was founded in 1970, when Charlotte de la Bedoyere published her first book – Basket Weaving in an attic room in Kensington. Translated from a German book, this was to be the first of many titles. The format was good. The books were small, reasonably priced and packed with information, offering crafters and needlecrafters new ideas and inspirational designs. Lotti, as she is known to everyone here at Search Press, went on include hot trends like pin and thread and candlemaking. The market loved them and so she continued, introducing full colour and a successful series of practical art books – the Leisure Arts.

In 1997 following Lotti’s decision to retire, her son, Martin de la Bedoyere, took over as Managing Director, with his wife Caroline, as Sales and Marketing Director. Both were directors from Heinemann publishing, and they have continued with the strong traditions that Lotti had built up over the previous 27 years, publishing a wide range of good value, high quality art and craft books.

You can read extracts from and reviews of Search Press books regularly in Leisure Painter and The Artist, and you can find a selection of art books from Search Press for sale in the PaintersOnline bookshop by clicking here.
