As a lifelong oil painter, I’ve always loved the buttery texture of oil paints. However, I often struggled with traditional hog-hair brushes—they tended to split, making it difficult to maintain sharp edges on flats and filberts, and their points would wear out quickly. While attending the Frankfurt Art Materials Fair, I saw an opportunity to collaborate with brush manufacturers and design a bespoke range to solve these problems.
Synthetic fibres quickly became the preferred choice for their consistent quality, unaffected by the health of animals. I also embraced the chance to create a vegan-friendly alternative. Partnering with a German manufacturer, we developed brushes with creamy fibres perfect for oils and acrylics, dark brown fibres that hold sharp points for watercolours, and a unique flat oval wash brush. This versatile design was unlike anything I’d seen before. Watch the video to see them in action!
