It had been my intention to retire from voluntary work - instead, I've been doing more of it than ever. I've painted virtually nothing for a couple of months, and my website is at present a total dud - partly because I've left it alone through necessity, and partly because the software I used has been taken off the market and I can't reload it on the computers I'm now using; so I can't develop it at all. If you visit it and conclude that I've probably died, I couldn't blame you. However, one of the advantages of the voluntary work I'm doing - it's with the Labour Party, let us not beat around the bush - is that I have found young people who are both computer-literate, and generous with their time and support to an ... ageing man, shall we say? whose technological grip is but weak. So very soon, I'm going to have help to rebuild my website, and also get my hands on a new computer. Had you therefore just given up on ever seeing progress from me, well so had I, but transformation is on the way technologically, and all I have to do - and how simple is this? - is paint some actual pictures.... It's not that I don't have a considerable stock of paintings, but it's time for some new work. And if I say that here, I've given a commitment I shall have to live up to - so I expect you all to hold me to it, and nag incessantly until you see some sign of this progress. Their personal politics to one side, incidentally, never let anyone tell you that "young people today" are selfish, lazy, and not willing to help. I've found that all you need to do is ask, and help IS there. If you're pushing on a bit, and feel like a complete twerp so far as computers etc are concerned, join an organization with young people who are brought up with such things - they've probably already sorted their grandparents out, and if you smile sweetly at them and provide them with tea and bikkies, more often than not they'll do the same for you.
