Creativity is the key to happiness

Hello, My name is Sue, I haven't done much art since I was a child and then it was for pleasure. The delightful teachers at school wouldn't let me put AART in my curriculum alkongside science so for many years I didn't repond to my creativve needs. Now as I have grown up and work full time I wanted a pastime to allow me to be creative, I ended up starting with " crad making" but I have a renewed passion for wanting to draw and paint. I am still nervous of being able to let go and just do it, but I am getting there. I have a fascination with pastels and want to develop this and try new things. I have enrolled in a watercolour calss to learn at my local college as a new year resolution only to be told it has been cancelled due to lack of interest. Well!! Put out was an understatement. So my next steps are to find a tutor and practicve practice.... it's a bit scary doing watercolour on my own, so a friend and are are about to embark on a lets do it and see...... I hope to be able to post some work here and would value constructive critique. Well here's till next time....... happy painting Sue

Hi Patsy ... I was visiting in Perth for the whole of October and November 08 and made two visits to Kings Park Botanical Gardens. I was amazed at the beauty of the place, but very distraught when I read in your blog about the fire .... such a pity that something like this can happen. My daughter, Lindy and her family, have moved to Perth 2 years ago from South Africa, and this was my first visit to your beautiful country. In all respects, this was an amazingly wonderful time for me, and I fell in love with Perth! They stay in Woodlands, close to the Ikea and not far from Innaloo. While there, we managed to set a little time aside to paint, unfortunately not enough! With small children around, it is not so easy. Now back home in George, RSA, I have been asked by my daughter -in-law to do a few paintings of old, dilapidated houses ... so, in between all the usual daily things, I try to find time to start with this 'commission' ... she told me that she would like the paint to be thickly applied, but I find that I am more comfortable with the glazing technique which allows for thin layers of paint. Your blog makes for very interesting reading, and I do wish you well on all your endeavours and challenges. Your flowers are beautiful, and I can very well remember the masses of roses whilst visiting ... Blessings to you and keep well!
