Portraiture Workshop
Portraiture Workshop
I have just attended a full day’s portraiture workshop arranged by the Ipswich Arts Society (Queensland, Australia). We spent a lot of time in the morning sketching using different methods, and in the afternoon, painting / drawing a portrait using the medium of your choice.
One of the sketching exercises was to do a three minute sketch from a photography that was projected on to a large screen. Three minutes was all the time you were allowed, and then we had to move onto the next figure. There were ten photographs in all, so we were hard at work, sketching for thirty minutes. The tutor Cynthia Hargraves, said that your sketches should get better as time goes on. My early sketches were the best and the last sketch I drew was very so so. I guess I must have been getting tired!
The three minutes sketch exercise is something that I will do on a daily basis. This should really get my portraiture drawings up to scratch!
