Painting in Wiltshire

I have taken part in several exhibitions in Salisbury this summer. During August I had three paintings selected for an exhibition in Salisbury. This year at the exhibition I was lucky enough to sell five mounted paintings of local scenes. During the year I have been challenging myself to paint, on location, views of Salisbury cathedral from different parts of the city. Several of these paintings were sold here. Although I enjoy painting in the autumn and winter these particular paintings were done in the spring and early summer. I also took part in another exhibition in Salisbury where I had the challenge to create a large painting to fit in a 50cm x 50cm frame. Although I don't normally work this big I wanted to challenge myself to do something different. I painted a local scene that I had made lots of sketches of previously. I was pleased with the result. The reasons that I create smaller paintings are practical. I don't have a lot of time to paint outside so create very small works because they take less time to complete - as I always like to finish a painting outside in one sitting. Also I don't have a car and would be unable to move enormous paintings to exhibitions on buses.
