A pictorial alphabet of favourite places around England – W for Walberswick (1)
A pictorial alphabet of favourite places I've sketched and painted around England
Walberswick, on the Suffolk coast, is just a short foot passenger ferry ride across the River Blyth from Southwold’s Blackshore,(see blog for B) and has three distinctive attractive areas. The shore and dunes hold beach huts which are much more basic than the multicoloured ones in Southwold. The river mouth area has the old ferry boat and fishing sheds, possibly the most painted and photographed sheds in England and shown in my painting, plus a few quirky modern holiday properties. The river bank has jetties and moorings opposite the Blackshore and leads to the bailey bridge carrying the footpath from Southwold Common into Walberswick village.
