Another blank for this letter, as I’ve never sketched or painted anywhere in England beginning with V. BUT I have sketched in many villages, whose names I omitted to note down at the time, so some of those will have to suffice. Taking a lead from the letter J, where I confessed to having sketched a lot of junk over the years, and N, where I admitted to a lot of sketches of nowhere in particular, my picture shows 4 average sketches from anonymous villages. From memory, and the sketch books they appear in, I would guess that these sketches were all done in Lancashire, Cumbria or Derbyshire – take your pick ! So much for the often stated opinion that a sketch of a place leaves a much deeper impression than a photo, or is it just an age thing?
