Biography

Tadworth Art Group Statement ARTIST OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 2019 Formed in 1969 by professional artist Barry Watkin to encourage interested painters to meet regularly and develop their skills, this year Tadworth Art Group celebrates its 50th anniversary. Members enjoy gathering weekly in the local church hall to produce an exciting and eclectic collection of artworks. Our ethos is to evolve and change and to continue our personal development. A varied programme, changing annually, includes workshops, artist’s demonstrations, critiques and painting-themed evenings. Dedicated, committed members with a good dose of healthy competition results in a mix of abstract, traditional, impressionist, botanical, landscapes and more. A summer and winter exhibition, each displaying around 250 paintings, is always well attended by loyal followers. In 2018 over 120 new visitors came to each of the May and November shows attracted by social media and publicity campaigns supported by local shops and the community. Such good visitor numbers achieve increased contributions for local charities where at each exhibition a member’s painting is raffled. Over the last 5 years Tadworth Art Group has collected in excess of £6800 for local charities. Success of members includes exhibiting at the Mall Galleries, written articles with demonstrations for Leisure Painter, the Artist, Jacksons’s and a winner of Pastel Guild of Europe’s monthly competition. The richness of experience ensures the celebrations and frustration of creating original artworks are shared and appreciated by all 34 members.
