Diana Boanas SWA

Biography

Jut before retiring from teaching , I returned to painting after a 40 year gap. I did O level then half an A level in art ,followed by a bit of oil painting ,printing and ceramics as part of a primary teaching course but hadn’t touched it since. I was bought a sketch book and pencils while on holiday 8 years ago and as I began drawing again was overcome with emotion and regret at having abandoned something so urgent in me.. I am now continuing to develop my drawing and watercolour painting which was a completely new medium to me but so exciting. I am virtually self taught and have devoured books, articles and videos alongside endless practice and some online tuition. Im my retirement, I have time available to explore and expand my techniques. Slowly building confidence, I have submitted work to exhibitions and competitions with success and winning several prizes. I have been honoured to have works selected for many juried exhibitions, including the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, The Society of Women Artists, The Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and the TALP Open exhibition at Patchings . My favourite medium is watercolour but I enjoy mark making with anything … almost! I have recently been selected as an associate member of the SWA. Society of Women Artists, which is a tremendous step in my creative development.
