Simon Gannicliffe

Biography
I grew up in Stockport, Cheshire and did a Foundation Course in Art and Design at Stockport College as a mature student. I went on to study Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University, where I specialised in sculpture. Drawing, photography and ceramics also played a big part in my studio practise. After art school, I trained as a teacher and taught art in a secondary school for a few years. Since leaving teaching, I have run a creative arts studio for people with physical disabilities in Surrey. As a self-taught painter, I am constantly learning both from experience and other artists, not least those who contribute to The Artist magazine! My main interest is the relationship between the built environment and the natural world and how they often grow into each other. I gather material by drawing in a variety of media, but usually paint in oils.
