Biography

Born in the Soviet Union in the city of Baku, next to the Caspian Sea - a place where she spent her summers with her Grandparents, Natalya Onidi went to school in Moscow, after her family later relocated there. Early in life she discovered her passion for art and after graduation from grammar school continued her artistic education with a private tutor. Her Undergraduate studies were in economics; this being seen as a more prestigious occupation during the time of the Soviet Union – and one which lead ultimately to a position at the Moscow Research Institute. Soon afterwards she married and started a family. In 2004 Natalya remarried and relocated with her daughter to the UK; initially she resided in London, later in the Northwest near Liverpool, where her formal artistic studies were conducted. In 2010 she began a series of private classes at various London institutes, and compiled a new body of work. This London acquired portfolio helped her secure a place on the University of Chester's Fine Art and Painting degree course, from which she graduated with honors in 2016. Working almost exclusively in Oils, she has had several exhibitions including a 2013 group exhibition at the Godfrey Pilkington Gallery, in the United Kingdom city of St Helens, a 2015 second year exhibition at the University, and a final year show, again at the Godfrey Pilkington Gallery. After graduation Natalya relocated to Luxembourg with her husband, and more recently to the city of Berlin, where she has embarked upon a career as a professional artist. Regardless of starting a family and following a rather different than planned for career trajectory, Natalya has always retained a deep interest in the arts, often visiting galleries. Persevering throughout the interim career years, and never loosing her passion for the creative process, Natalya has continued to develop her technique and style. Natalya is currently working on a project for the Berliner gallery entitled “Himmel über Berlin” a series of work influenced by the 1982 Wim Wenders movie of the same name.
