DOROTHY WILSON

Biography

I have been very interested in art since I was a small child and spent many happy hours drawing and painting all through my life. It is something which I would have liked to have progressed with further but as so often happens, ordinary life took over. However, I am a creative person and from my teenage years took a keen interest in craftwork of all kinds, learning all sorts of crafts both self taught and with instruction and in later years, set up some craft groups for Senior Citizens. However, I was still keen to learn drawing and painting properly so embarked on a few years of college classes followed by, at the age of 52 becoming a full time student, graduating in 1997 in Fine Art. For the past 7 years I have been involved in Voluntary work, and at this time am in my 5th. year of teaching the basics of art one afternoon a week to Senior Citizens at our local Community Centre. I find this extremely rewarding seeing them go to having no experience to producing work of a high enough standard to have the courage to enter competitions and exhibitions, as I still do myself and indeed having some degree of success. The class is also a social gathering weekly which is very important.
