The UK's bestselling learn to paint magazine
I have always loved art and as a child I would frequently be found drawing the trees in the garden.
I first worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in London and Dorset for fifteen years. One of my favourite posts was illustrating natural-history display-boards in watercolour & ink for Dorset County Council. They would be displayed at beauty spots around Dorset. As I wasn't allowed to sign my name on these, I would draw a little bird as a sort of signature instead.
On having young children, I was moved to paint their portraits and I started to experiment with every media and subject over the following years - painting as often as work and family commitments allowed.
The challenge of entering Open Art competitions appealed next and sometimes I was lucky to have my entries selected for exhibition. Highlights include: Winning the New Forest Open 2015 and being shortlisted for A&I AOTY 2017. It fulfilled a dream to have a painting in the Mall Galleries, and poignantly it depicted the old trees I loved in my childhood garden.
I’m currently ‘sculpturing’ wildflowers using impasto paint applied with a painting knife. It felt a natural progression to print onto fabric, so my some of my floral paintings are printed onto cushions and now stationery.
