Workshop: Pastels Explained

Workshop: Pastels Explained

This was a workshop I delivered in February at the Millennium Gallery Sheffield.

Format was to explain the properties and working characteristics of the four types of pastel. I used a Powerpoint presentation initially to see pastels in action from a variety of artists but we had time to produce four images involving different subjects, requiring different pastel techniques, as well as instruction in the broader aspects of portraiture, still life and landscape. The results from those who attended, many of whom who had never picked up a stick of pastel in earnest, were outstanding. A great medium; immediate, vibrant, expressive and hellish messy. Loved it. Here are some images I generated in connection with the event.
