What to do what to do

What to do what to do

What’s next

So I finally finished my self portrait it’s ok ish for a first attempt I suppose. I like to vary what I do so don’t fancy doing another portrait. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do next

How's it going? Trees, plants or something else? :)

Plant drawing is always a good subject. A house plant in a pot is a good subject for improving drawing skills. Not too complicated and you needn't leave the house! Look closely and paint the stems of the plant from the bottom upwards (as the plant grows). Plant drawing/painting from a real plant.

Most of us have this question at the back of our minds even when we're working on a piece. As I am currently stuck in precisely that situation, not knowing what I want to do next, I regret that I can be of little help. However - you've had a crack at a self-portrait - and I always say to myself "if in doubt, paint a tree". Because you've got your subject - the tree - and can put it in just about any situation you like - forest, copse, roadside, city pavement, tundra, desert, rain forest, even mountain. The one thing I'll never paint from choice is a still life, but many people derive satisfaction from them. Not I .... but their virtue is that you can assemble just about any group of objects and compose them to your satisfaction without even having to leave your sitting room.
