Standing in the station

We had been working with colour mixing, and Viridian, Alizarin, and Ultramarine Blue were the selection this time. These are immensely strong colours, and the muted purple gained from mixing Alizarin and Viridian never ceases to amaze me. Creating a painting using these three only would be a real challenge, but this interpretation let me off the hook! A light diagonal stroke of each of them into a wet wash gave me my ground, then I painted a multicoloured "monochrome" of the little engine, changing colour as I passed from one to the next. The red of the foreground, passing through blue into green enhances the perspective. I don't think a railway buff would be charmed, But I like him.
