POCU bio
A short intro to my artwork
Sue is English by birth and Australian by choice. She was taught to draw by
her mum and early inspired by the works of the great JMW Turner. She dabbled in art as a student but became a geologist and vertebrate palaeontologist, creating only scientific illustrations. As a result of the Brisbane Flood in 2011, she decided to learn more about art and especially colour, inspired by a good friend, Jenny Halstead of Reading, UK. Jenny recommended working with pen and drawing every day.
I began pastel classes with Shirl Charlton at Kenmore Community
Education in Brisbane. To my great surprise I won the Brookfield Show Oxlades Pastel Prize in 2014. I joined the Royal Queensland Art Society, Brisbane branch in the same year and have been exhibiting regularly there and in other local galleries, including as a Gold member with PIL, where I have met many wonderful artist friends.
Sue has worked in many countries including the Americas, China, France, Germany, Netherlands, Inner Mongolia, Iran, Russia, UK, and so she has many sources for inspiration. Currently she is learning more about watercolour and acrylics. She loves drawing animals, especially cats!
