My Trip to Amsterdam!

After an exhausting 9 hour coach journey we finally arrived at our hostel that we would be staying in for the next 5 days. I had never been to Amsterdam before and personally for art museums and culture it has to be in the top three places I have been. The first night we got there we just explored the town and got lost trying to get back to our hostel. Our first day consisted of taking way too many photos of the canals and going to a flea market which was incredible. Half of the flea market consisted of fabric and trimmings and the other half was filled with vintage clothes stores. The idea of heaven in my case! With many bags filling up my arms we struggled back to the hostel where I did a few sketched of the photos I took whist at the flea market. After about an hour of sketching we decided to go and look at a couple of small art galleries right on the street that our hostel was so there was no chance of us getting lost! The art galleries were very inspiring but it was a shame that we were not allowed to take any photos in there. Our second and third day consisted of going to many museums as our hotel was only a short walk away from the museum plane. The museum plane consisted of The Van Gogh Museum, The Rijks museum, The Stedelijk museum and also the famous I Amsterdam sign. The museums were phenomenal, my personal favourite had to be the Rijks because of all the amazing photography exhibitions. Those two days had to be the most insightful and the most exhausting, the Stedelijk and the Rijks both have three floors and are huge! Safe to say I was glad to get back to the hostel and put my feet up. Day four was filled with historical trips like The Anne Frank house, Rembrandt’s house and then in the afternoon we went do another flea market, this one was filled with more home decor and a lot of fabric! Safe to say I bought a lot of bargains, by this point I was considering buying another suitcase! After we dropped all of our things in our room we decided to go and sketch by the canal which was very therapeutic being able to draw the water, boats and people around it. It was extremely sad waking up on the last day knowing that we would have to take a nine hour coach journey back to rainy old England. Overall the trip was a great experience and I would urge anyone thinking about going somewhere in Europe who wants to paint and soak in the culture to defiantly go to Amsterdam, for me it was amazing.
