I first visited Kalymnos and the organisers of Greek Island Painting Trips, John and Liz Jennings in September 2018. Despite the bad weather I was very impressed with the variety of landscape, seascape and individual intimate spaces that we visited. I returned this past 6th May with a group of students - and to better weather - albeit a bit breezy on the first few days. One day we jumped on the small ferry to the small island of Telendos and were able to enjoy complete isolation without the noise of cars and motorbikes. The sea is so very clear and it was challenging to paint Kalymnos from another view.
It is always a pleasure to teach enthusiastic students who are hankering for demonstrations of techniques. Except for a portrait session, it all went very well and we had time to swim and relax as well as produce a lot of work. We planned to spend a day in Pirates Cove, but the pirate was not available to model!
Since that week I have worked on some more finished paintings.
I plan to return next year in early September. Early booking will be necessary as the maximum numbers is only 10. If you want to know more, check out my website. @podilawrenceartist.com
