Open Art Competition 2018 FAQs

1. How do I enter?

Click here to pay your entry fee, following which you will receive a confirmation of payment email and, shortly after, a link and pass code for access to uploading your entries

3. How do I upload my entries?

Having accessed the upload site using the pass code you will have received by email, follow the instructions to browse for your image file (jpg, png and tif files are acceptable formats) on your computer/tablet and complete all the information boxes required. Having uploaded all of your entries click the submit button to enter (please note that once you have submitted your entry/entries you will no longer have access to make any changes

4. When does judging take place?

Judging takes place after April 13, 2018

5. How soon after judging will I hear the results?

Entrants will be notified in mid-May

6. What is the procedure if my work is selected for exhibition?

Your work will need to be delivered to Patchings Art Centre in Nottingham between June 15 and July 1, 2018. Your acceptance email will provide all details for exhibiting and advice on delivering your work

7. Can I sell my work at the exhibition?

You can mark your work as being for sale during the exhibitions. To do so, please tick the for sale? button and then add the price in the box that will appear.

8. Who are the judges?

The judges are:

  • David Curtis ROI, RSMA
  • Guest Judge Lachlan Goudie ROI
  • Ingrid Lyon, editor Leisure Painter
  • John Sprakes ROI, RBA, MAFA
  • Liz Wood, artist and co-owner of Patchings Art Centre

9. Can I enter by post?

We no longer accept postal entries to the competition

10. Can my entries have been exhibited elsewhere?

Yes, providing they will be available for exhibition during the relevant dates.

11. How many works can I enter?

You can pay for up to three or up to six entries at a time. There is no restriction on how many entries you can purchase however

12. Can I enter for both The Artist and Leisure Painter categories?

You can enter works in both categories, but they must be different works

13. Are there any restrictions on media used?

Photography, except where incorporated into collage, is not acceptable

14. Are there any restrictions on subject matter?

No, all subject matter is welcome

15. How do I pay?

16. If I don’t have a computer can I still enter?

We can only accept digital entries to the competition. Your local library may have the facilities you need for entering your work, and some local schools also provide internet access for residents in the area

17. Do I need to frame my work?

All exhibited works, except canvases, need to be framed

18. Is there a maximum or minimum size?

No entry should be larger than 120x150cm WHEN FRAMED

19. Is there any commission charged if my work is sold at the exhibition?

There is a commission charge of 25% including VAT on sales of works accepted and hung in the exhibitions
