Harry Hill's 'Secret' Paintings at Ellesmere Art Exhibition

A selection of paintings by comedian and TV presenter Harry Hill will be part of the Ellesmere College Art Exhibition from Wednesday 1st June through to Sunday 5th June.

The TV presenter, who has been painting 'in secret' for the past 20 years, recently revealed that he has amassed so many paintings that it was "quite nice to get them out of the house". The presenter said he received great support in developing his artistic side from his wife, who he described as a "proper painter". His works are from an on-going series depicting a parallel universe where nature, celebrity and surrealism collide. There is horse on a surfboard, Bruce Forsyth, Brit pop coconuts, a portrait of Cheryl Cole and a memorial to Honey the guinea pig. This will be the fifth year that the College will be hosting the National Art Exhibition and sale of works, which annually attracts 80 professional artists exhibiting over 300 pieces. Last year’s the event recorded its highest number of visitors, as 1000 people came to see the art and sculptures on display. Director of External Relations Nick Pettingale said "Our goal is to see the artistic talent, both local and national, celebrated and given a higher profile in the region. This wasn't a display of our students work, great though that is, but rather that of professional artists and sculptors. There was something for every taste and pocket." Harry Hill will be joined by a number of artists from Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire, including Royal Cambrian Academy and Royal Birmingham Society of Artist member Maggie Humphry. On Friday 3rd June, budding artists will be able to take part in a contemporary drawing workshop with returning professional artist Sonja Benskin-Mesher RCA. The exhibition will be running from Wednesday 1st June 7.30 - 9.00pm, Thursday 2nd - Saturday 4th June - 11.00am - 9.00pm and Sunday 5th June - 11.00am - 2.00pm.
