  • Oh I wouldn't say this is a tight painting. I like the textures, which you might not get in a looser style (?) (I haven't used oils for years so am not qualified to say,) but I think this is a delightful picture.

  • What's wrong with tight if it works and this does. I don't get this emphasis on loose all the time; not everyone likes loose.

  • May blessings untold be upon both of you - I work on my own a bit too much, I think, and have the sort of mind that turns on itself if there's no one else to do it! Pleased that this works for you.

  • I am not a fan of oil as most paintings I see in this mediumk look far too heavy with opressive colours. This on the other hand buzzes with light and beautiful colour and is a most attractive work. Forget tight or loose - paint it from your gut feeling. I agree with Diana that the holy grail of 'loose' is very misleading as it doesn't suit all subjects. I am viewing this as your interpretation of the scene and how you felt about it at the time and it works in spades. You might even convert me to liking oil paintings!

  • Think the best way to do loose oils is plein air perhaps, robert - am learning that it doesnt pay to think too much and I like this for the colours and not the looseness exactly but not too structured either

  • I like it :) I am not really on the take with art language as I taught myself, so Im thinking by tight you mean to much to close? I think its lovely any way, and thanks again for your comments on my new painting.
