Staffs, United Kingdom
I studied art at school and then went to Leek Art School, where I met some fabulous people who taught me a lot, and the staff were pretty good too. I then took a degree in art at Manchester until 1987. Then I stopped altogether and switched direction to music, and then teaching design, both of which I have done for the last 20 plus years. In 2004 I took life classes for a couple of terms, where I developed a taste for working rapidly, and enjoying making marks. Then another break until I started to draw again a couple of years ago on holidays aiming to fill a sketchbook each holiday. In late August 2017 I started painting again and this time I managed to paint 100 images by the end of the year. Culminating with winning the "Paint in the style of Van Gogh" competition in conjunction with Royal Talens and The Artist Magazine. After a week or so off for Christmas I am back in the flow and am thoroughly enjoying it.
I have already started using oils this year, and intend to get out en plain air as soon as free time and the weather improve. I also have framed work for sale, exhibited in 'The Gallery' in Leek , and also have an exhibition in May in the Foxlowe Arts Centre.
I also want to enter as many competitions as I can this year as well, so I have started with both the Sky Portrait and Landscape competitions. More to follow ...
