  • Love the colours in the crumbling wall, Rupert. I’m sure you’ll do well in your one man exhibition next April.

  • I'm running very low on superlatives in discussing your work - this has everything a watercolour needs, there's not a dull patch in it, and yet the tonal contrasts lead you in, past completely brilliant brushwork and patches of interest which might otherwise disrupt the passage of the eye; and of course, it's a great composition. Every good wish for your exhibition - if you don't manage to sell everything you show, there's something wrong with people's eyes.

  • Thanks for your encouraging comments. From time to time I do suffer from bouts of serious self-doubt and depression when it comes to my work so reading these comments - I don't remember any bad ones - does me a lot of good.

  • So agree with Robert Jones. Your paintings always give me a real thrill.

  • There is something very special about your watercolours Rupert, it’s very difficult to look away from them, whatever the subject.
    Good luck with the exhibition!

  • Fiona Phipps, I liked your comment very much. I recently sold an oil painting in the NEAC Exhibition at the Mall Galleries and the person who bought it said that they kept on going back repeatedly to look at my painting before eventually having it.

  • Well, I agree with Fiona. No self doubt necessary.

  • .....and I still keep coming back to look!
Your paintings also have a way of staying in the memory Rupert, I remember two in particular that I would love to own. I’m going back maybe, six years ago, you posted an oil of a dead magpie and also an oil of a red cabbage....in fact I think you have also done watercolours of red cabbages, which I also remember.
I have looked through your galleries, in fact anywhere I have seen your name, I’ve looked for these two paintings. If not to own, just to look at them once again....lol.
I may not always comment on your work but I never miss what you post, I must have an addiction!
Don’t ever doubt the effect your paintings have on the viewer Rupert, the comments you receive are genuine respect for yourself and your work.
