  • Actually, I thought this was a watercolour to begin with. Seeing that it is oil, I think you have employed a lovely light touch with this painting and I don't see you struggling at all - looks very successful to me.

  • I've now seen the watercolour, and both have their strengths. However (perhaps because I'm an oil painter by preference) I prefer this version and think I'd have preferred it even more if you'd used somewhat thicker paint, and taken it slowly - adding layers over a week or two. I don't really mean to make this sound like damning with faint praise: I like both versions.

  • Thanks for your considered comments Robert. Because I have painted much more in watercolour! I tend to rush things when I paint in oils! I might go back to this when in dries and add a bit more strength to it.
