Spent some time at Batsford Arboretum this morning painting this hermits cave which I’ve sketched previously and painted in gouache not that successfully. This is oils on a 12x10” canvas board. The dappled sun came through the trees after I’d started, so I think I’ll add it in as I think it’ll add to the effect of the painting. Lovely morning listening to the birds, not many people about as I was there early.

It looks great, Tessa. I like the foliage and how it dresses the rocks perfectly. Speaking of which, the rocks are very good and the entire scene does what it says on the tin. I can well imagine a hermit living here, even if it's not true. I like this sort of thing and always have. Very nice.
