    Tutor: Paul Talbot-Greaves

Paul Talbot-Greaves is a professional artist, tutor and contributor to The Artist.  Paul's work reflects the rugged scenery of the landscape, either in the context of wild places or in the nature of the South Pennine landscape where he lives.

    Description

Acrylic dries fast, which can lead to many unwanted hard edges in your pictures.  From 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm on Thursday 13 July, Paul Talbot-Greaves will show you how to blend and fuse colour to create evocative soft edges that will transform your landscape painting. These can be contrasted with harder edges and thicker, opaque applications later on in the painting. Using FW Artists’ Acrylic Inks to create flow, you will be shown techniques to first generate softly blended colours, before progressing on to applications of thicker colour using System 3 Acrylics. These will sharpen up your painting, add opacity and involve sculptural, expressive brushmarks. The afternoon session is a repeat of the morning's course.

Daler-Rowney will provide each student with a System 3 Original Introduction Set; a set of six FW Acrylic Inks and two System 3 Short Flat Brushes, worth in total over £60(rrp). System 3 Original is a high-quality, water-based, medium-bodied acrylic designed to offer a perfect compromise between firmer, more controlled applications of colour and the swift and even coverage of large areas. FW Artists’ Acrylic Ink is an acrylic-based pigmented water-resistant ink which can be diluted to achieve subtle tones. Washes dry to a water-resistant film and successive layers of colour can be built up. System 3 Brushes are resilient and durable. The single thickness of soft synthetic filaments gives a good snap and perfect spring. For more details about Daler-Rowney products please visit www.daler-rowney.com. Students will be advised of the additional materials necessary when booking.

The cost of each three-hour session is just £55(inc VAT) per person and includes instruction from Paul Talbot-Greaves, Daler-Rowney art materials worth over £60(rrp) PLUS free entry to Patchings Art, Craft & Photography Festival for the day, worth £10!
