Naomi Tiry Salgado

Biography

I taught elementary art for 5 years. Though I love working with children, I found it a struggle to balance time with my family and time for my own artwork. So I left teaching to paint full-time. I paint en plein air. There is something about hearing, smelling, and feeling the atmosphere right there at the scene that I hope comes through on the canvas. It also allows me to meet some really awesome people who stop by to see what I’m doing. I frequently paint with palette knives instead of brushes. Not only does this technique offer the health and environmental benefits of not needing solvent, but I also like the way it looks. Some people describe my style as energetic, loose and carefree. Others have compared my work with the thick impasto of Russian Impressionism. I would love to hear your thoughts as well!
