The UK's bestselling learn to paint magazine
I have painted and sketched since early childhood and my favourite subject was the old orchard fruit trees in our garden.
Following a Bachelor of Arts degree, I worked as an illustrator and graphic designer in in-house studios in London and Dorset - where I also illustrated natural-history information boards which were displayed throughout the county.
On raising a family, I felt driven to capture my children's likenesses on canvas and began painting more frequently - this time with myself as the client!
I now work in most media: acrylic (both impasto and glazed watercolour-style); oil; pastel; ink & pencil. I like to record subjects which might pass unnoticed: flowers by the kerbside; a face in the crowd; a strip of sunlight on the lawn.
While attempting to render the 'ordinary, everyday' in paint, I frequently discover that the subject is far more extraordinary than the first casual glance suggested!
Entering Open Art competitions has presented me with new challenges and I have been fortunate to have been selected for a number of these juried exhibitions.
A full exhibition list is on my website, but my personal highlights are: Winning the New Forest Open Art Competition in 2015, and being shortlisted for Artists & Illustrators Magazine's 'Artist of the Year 2017' Competition at the Mall Galleries, London.
It fulfilled an ambition to have a painting selected for the Mall Galleries and was really poignant for me as my entry was a painting of the old fruit trees in my former childhood garden.
