Biography

Balancing time between architecture and painting, I enjoy the respite watercolour painting gives me. It’s exciting and unpredictable, and is also a beautiful medium when it’s left to its own immediacy and fluidity. My preference is for landscapes, which comes from the love of what is quintessentially British in its origin. I was influenced at an early age by The Masters, but in particular the light and shade of Rembrandt, Turner and Caravaggio. Later years I studied the Victorian watercolour masters such as Singer Sargent, Albert Goodwin, Arthur Melville, and later again Gerald Ackermann and Edward Seago. My mother, who is an artist, formally trained she reminds me, introduced me to John Blockley RI, and the works of James Fletcher Watson RI. But it was good friend Meredith Hawes RWS who encouraged me to continue in watercolour and believed in my ability. My works have been sold to clients worldwide but I still consider myself as a relative novice in this wonderful medium
