Biography

I'm looking forward to my next painting trip to Italy, May to August 2022 - the covid gods should step aside because I'm coming to deal with them!! http://www.amandabrett.net My workshop dates are 6-10 June, for more information https://www.amandabrett.net/workshop-lucca-italy-june-2022.html Creating is what I am meant to do and, luckily for me, I am able to live my dream painting in Italy for 4 months every year. Amanda enjoys painting street scenes en plein air or studio and still-life. "I always add people and crowds to my street scenes, many artists avoid this but I find it exhilarating (frightening!) to add a minimal shape that will become a person. Watercolour is for the minimalist, less is definitely more! I love creating odd funky shapes - they still say 'I'm a bottle or a teapot' but nothing is straight - a long line has a kink or something to destroy it" I’m completely committed to watercolour, other mediums just don’t do it for me so I have spent a lot time studying watercolour painting and art privately. There are effects that you just simply cannot get in any other medium; I love the luminosity I can achieve and I love the way I can leave the pigments to just do their thing – I love watching paint dry!!
