High McGowanston Studio High McGowanston Farm Turnberry Girvan
A4A Art for Architecture lead by John McKenna run a variety of courses from the art studio, based on a small farm on the beautiful rural coastline of South West Scotland. Work alongside John McKenna A.R.B.S, a member of the Royal society of British sculptors and a professional public artist for over 20 years. John has lectured in figurative sculpture and 3D design in further education colleges. Peter Scott Tudhope M.A (Fine Art) runs our drawing and painting courses. Spend a weekend or longer course studying drawing techniques and painting with Peter. Short courses are run in ceramic shell lost wax bronze casting, sculpture and painting. A five day course in bronze casting will give you 'hands on' practical experience in bronze casting, at the end of which you should take away with you knowledge of the bronze casting technique and a small bronze cast of your own work. John can also run clay sculpture courses and sculptural metal fabrication courses from the studio. Course dates are flexible to suit your learning needs, accommodation not included. There is on site accommodation for x2 persons in our cottage annexe, next door to the studio or you can stay a local B&B, if desired meals can be provided eating en famille (at extra cost). The courses will have between 4 and 6 PERSONS per course, to enable an intensive learning experience, allowing lots of individual attention on the courses. Please call to discuss further, we are flexible to your learning requirements.

I have been creative since I could remember. I have been selling my own art work since 2005. I am mainly self taught but have a variety of skills in drawing and painting. I took Photography at college, ranging from digital to black and white. Early 2010 I started encouraging others to be creative by giving opportunities at fairs. In 2011 I decided I wanted to encourage others and share my enthusiasm for art and photography. I then received an amazing opportunity to teach years 1 to 6. So far the children have learnt a variety of skills from colouring, shading, landscapes, painting, still life, mixing colours and lots more. I am enjoying my work so far and I hope more opportunities arises to share my knowledge and encourage others, young and old to also use their creative skills.
