Wheal Betsy - Dartmoor

Wheal Betsy - Dartmoor

My muse has been the tors and moors of Dartmoor for several years now. The introduction of the Wheal houses is a new thing as I am taking part in an exhibition as. Part f the Drawn To The Valley art group. It is being held at The Tamar Valley center in Gunnislake from 12th -17th March PL18 9FE

It has been fun to work on this project bringing together many elements old and new. Working in Black and White with a definite "noir " feel is an e tension of my painting from last year, the black and white landscapes of Dartmoor. Adding tin foil as a collage and shinny effect harps back to seascapes I did many years ago when I added silver leaf. The tin foil I use now is much less sophisticated, but I really like that. it represents the silver and tin ore that was extracted years ago, the precious metal that gave value to the point of the area being mined in the first place. The black sky add mystique is a bit of fear of the night, fear of the dark, I also like is as the miners would have worked in the dark and we get to experience their life and their fears too.
