How I became vicbricart.

How I became vicbricart.

My life as an Artist.

I always did some Art since a child. I remember watching programs on tv about Art and making things. I have done so ever since. I looked after my parents and Nan (my mums mum) who lived with us, for many years. They have all gone now. My Mum was the last to go, in 2009. To come to terms with her death, I enrolled onto a Btec Art, Design and Media course. It was so inspiring and being with other like minded people. All mixed ages and from different back grounds and all there for different reasons. Some getting over alcohol and/or drug related problems. They were some of the best people I had ever met. It made me realise how fortunate I had been all my life. Of having such loving parents etc. I then went on to do a Foundation course in the same subjects. I would have liked to have gone on to University but money didn't permit. One of the tutors there who was a textile Artist said she didn't want me to get into debt or be to go on a different path of what I was already doing. During this time, it was a two year part time foundation, I also started working on a Friday on Corn Street at St. Nicholas Market. I did this for 3 years until I managed to get a place inside the market where I still am. It will be 4 years on the 18th November. I work from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. I absolutely love it. I believe I work hard to keep going but it isn't always easy. But I don't think anything worth doing is going to be easy. I have also had published a children's book which I have written and illustrated. Something I have wanted to do for a very long time. To my delight it is in Waterstones, (I love that shop so was pleased that they took it on), also selling in the Arnolfini and other places in Bristol. It is called The Adventures of Ben and Amy. Loosely based on my eldest niece and nephew when they were small children. I have put them going around Bristol harbour visiting different places. My second book will be published next year. My book also acts as a mini guide for tourists. And any one else. I have attached an image of my book.
