Winner of a Daler-Rowney award in the Leisure Painter category of the Patchings Festival Open International Art Exhibition 2014

Around this time, almost 12 months ago I received the news from Dr Sally Bulgin, confirming in a letter that my painting, Cock-a-doodle-do, had been accepted into the Leisure Painter category of the Patchings 2014 Open International Art Exhibition. I was over the moon. Despite previous entries, it was to be my first exhibit with the Artists' Publishing Company Ltd (TAPC). Michael and I chose a suitable double mount and frame from our online provider, Frames Online at a reasonable price, delivered the painting about 2 weeks before the Festival Show opened, then arranged to visit on the Sunday, the last day of the event. It was quite unbelievable really, and I have to keep pinching myself even now when I find my work has been accepted for an exhibition or it has done well, however, before Michael and I had actually got to see the exhibition, on the opening day, Thursday, we received a message from artist an friend, Judith Crown, who, like myself is a weathered Leisure Painter. She said that my entry had won a Daler-Rowney award - woohoo! I felt very proud when we finally got to see the display of fine work by LP artists and it gave my confidence such a huge boost. I have kept the "Congratulations" letter which was sent by Events Manager, Caroline Griffiths some days later confirming my "Daler-Rowney Award" at the "2014 The Artist & Leisure Painter Patchings Competition and Exhibition". My prize comprised a System 3 Screen Printing Set. Although I'm not an avid fan of the screenprinting process, our daughter, Natalie started a BTEC Art & Design course at Bradford College last autumn and it has been put to good use. I'm now waiting to hear from this year's selection panel decision and eagerly await the Royal Mail, so if you, like me, are in a similar position, I wish you good luck and hope that you have many future successes. In the meantime, I'll leave you on Flashback Friday with this "flashback" image of my award winning, Cock-a-doodle-do - hope he didn't wake you up too early this morning, sometimes the crowing can be a bit of a pain! Have a good weekend everyone. http://www.frames.co.uk/
