Creating animals in Oil Pencils

Creating animals in Oil Pencils

Basic tips on working with oil pencils and what paper.

I have worked on and with animals for years and what i always find is there is always room for experimenting and improving still to this day i will always find a way on developing my skills as a artist. I tried working with many ranges of art pencils that i feel would have done the job but after years of trying my 2 favourites i don't think i would give up are the Faber Castell Polychromas and the Caran D'ache Luminance. as The Polychromas are Oil based they have a great way of blending and adapting, especially in conjunction with the Luminance pencils. I find that materials make a small dent in process and not rushing is key over the years i have either tried the pressure i use and the fact i will not use one colour for a section i will start white on white and slowly build it up.

What a wonderful hare! Love it. I've been working at the zoo for nearly 17 years now and always loved painting and drawing animals, it's sort of... natural. Did some colored pencil drawings too but I prefer Derwent Drawing and Coloursoft. Never used Faber Castell or Caran D'ache, maybe I'll try in the future :)
