Constable in Gent (Belgium)

Today, my husband and I went to Gent to the local Museum of Art and saw the Constable Drawing Exhibition. It is a collection of 85 oil, watercolour and pencil studies from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It was wonderful!!!! We had an early lunch at the Museum restaurant and while the other visitors had lunch too, we had almost all the galleries to our selfs. The studies were amazing, especially my favourites: pencil drawings of some trees and landscapes. I had my eyes about 10cm from the glass in the frames to see every detail. I was surprised by the detail in the drawings, it must have taken him hours to finish all the foliage. There are no words for that and I often thought of Denise with all her beautiful detailed penworks. Denise, if you had seen that!!!! On the info desk I saw that there is an exhibition with works from Ford Madox Brown coming on this year but I was so high (!!!!) that I didn't look at the dates. On Wikipedia I saw that he studied in Gent and other places in Belgium. I certainly will go and see it.
