Home grown lemon and Laguiole knife. -

Watercolour 29x21cm on DR Aquafine 300g paper. A still life of one of my own lemons(very proud!). The tree is in a big pot and it winters in a greenhouse. It's a very brave tree! as it was split in two when a neighbour's tree fell on the green house 3 yrs ago. Not sure about the colour of the background - could I risk putting a darker wash over it?

Beautifully and senstively painted Avril. I'm not surprised you're proud of the lemon - wonderful that it is now preserved for posterity. I will leave it to those more experienced than I am to advise on the background - mine often go under the tap so many times before I am satisfied. I think the knife in particular is very cleverly worked.

A lemon with a history! Well recorded, lovely painting. To me the pink background jumps out and draws too much attention from your subject. . A thin .ultramarine glaze would knock it back a bit, do you think?

PS: I think I would do it by painting up to the edges rather than a flowing wash.

Can't say much more than what has already been said. The knife is knocking my eye out. Smashing.

A lovely watercolour and you are justly right to be proud of the lemon, firstly for growing it and secondly for the well executed painting of it. I agree with Ruth about the pink background jumping out a little but reluctant to give advice as my backgrounds, when I dare to do any, leave a lot to be desired!!

Agree with above comments, great painting. I think I would risk the idea by Ruth, as the violet as it would then become would complement the gorgeous lemon, but that is my thought, maybe I would spoil it. T'is up to you..............
