Had a great demo at Budleigh Salterton Devon yesterday. Did pen and wash and included some Inktense. Big turnout of really nice enthusiasts who where really responsive to the work done.
First visit to Budleigh Salterton but will make sure I go back there in near future to do some painting of this delightful place.
Painting done is of 'Hollow Road' a hidden track on the private estate of sir Richard and Sally Merriot in East Yorkshire near my art centre in Kilham.

Must see show- Hockney at the Royal Academy

20 Jan 2012 13:22
Updated 20 Jan 2012 13:23

I have just returned from seeing Davids show 'The Bigger Picture' at the RA.
Very lucky to have had early access for friend and family on Monday then again with the great and good for the official preview on Tuesday.
The show is OUTSTANDING.. and a must visit for interested in art.
I have been lucky enough to see a lot of this being created in the area around here where we run our art holiday courses in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds village of Kilham. And also seen them in his local studio. But to see them all hung takes your breath away. Everyone who was privileged to attend were walking around with a big smile. Which just shows the impact of the work. He has taken traditional landscape painting to a new level. The president of the RA in his opening speech related to Davids home coming after 30 years in LA and how his pallet from there has been translated into the subtle beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds. Eluding to previous great lanscape RA members such as Turner and Constable and expressing the view that David has now taken it to a new contemporary level. Also must take time to watch (32 mins long) is his video installation and his 51 I pad creations which where only a small number of the ones he actually did. At 74 he is still at the cutting edge of creativity with paints and now technology. Book early on RA site places are selling out faster than for the Van Gogh show
