Frosty Sunset over The Blackhills.

Love the absence of the use of white paint. The blues convey the coldness so emphatically and the grey trees soften the blow of the coldness, together with the warmth of the red, ground reflections and the red in the sky. I also like the subtle way you have painted the sun. Super work Alan but I’m glad not to be in the UK right now - much too cold.

I love this, Alan. The touch of red adds extra atmosphere.

I agree with Carole, it's amazing there no white but still conveys a picture of cold deep snow.

Another great piece Alan, those blues send a shiver down the spine, time for a nightcap perhaps.

Caught with majesty Alan

Lovely work Alan I love the open silent spaciousness of this painting.

I love the ‘simple’ approach ,it describes the temperature and landscape beautifully

Makes you feel cold. Love the simplicity, it needs no more.

I like the seamless horizon Alan and as others have mentioned, you’ve demonstrated the feeling of snow/frost without the use of white.

Thanks everyone for some great comments, appreciated!

Effective colouring, Alan

Recognized your style straight away Alan. Makes me shiver from here! Excellent.

Caught the atmosphere of the scene well.

16 x 20in, oil on canvas board. I’ve kept this version simple by using a limited palette, concentrating on atmosphere and minimal detail.
